30-Day Bride- Décor Part 1

The 30-Day Bride is Karina Lemke, a Toronto-based florist, wedding planner and TV host who decided on May 13 to tie the knot on July 1. For 30 consecutive days we’re tracking Karina and her fiancé, Mark Breslin (of Yuk Yuk’s fame), as they reveal their trials and tribulations. We’ll have all the juicy details leading up to, and including, their big day.

Since she’ll be getting married in Laguna Beach, California, Karina figured that would be a practical place to source linens. Was she ever wrong! Let’s just say that the options out there didn’t quite match up with Karina’s good taste (in fact, finding almost anything of taste in Laguna has been a problem for Karina since day one). So it looks like she’ll be schlepping more than just her wedding dress out west for the big event.

Karina approached the person she trusts most to help her find the perfect look: Debbie Farkas from Around The Table, a specialty linen rental place here in Toronto. The two women quickly fell in love with a gorgeous, sand-coloured linen with a slight shimmer, which will go perfectly with seashells, napkins and candles that will appear on each table. (Karina actually based her invitations on linens used for a client wedding last year. She was hoping to use those exact linens for her own wedding but it turns out they don’t look good with the other tabletop elements.)

Finding the perfect combination.

Erring on the side of caution, Karina still wants to view a couple of different options once she’s at the actual resort — just to be sure that everything works well together (that the napkins will match the tablecloths, for example, and that they’ll complement the seashells). Once she’s made a final decision, Karina will relay the message back to her team in Toronto and voila — linens will be packed away and transported to California. Here’s hoping no one forgets a steamer!
