A Brides Makes Her Own Bouquet

On the morning of May 7, Gin Lee awoke early like most brides do on their wedding day. Except Gin wasn’t sipping coffee or chatting on the phone with her BFF but rather making her bouquet as well as a boutonnière for her fiancé, Allan Gurney.

It isn’t often that a bride makes her own bouquet. But for Gin and Allan, it was very important for them to stay on budget — and not have any friends or family do any of the planning — and so they took a real DIY approach to their big day.

The couple planned to spend most of their money on two things: a lunch, held at the Rosewater restaurant following their civil ceremony at Toronto City Hall, and professional photographer James Paul Correia.

Gin and Allan made the centrepieces for the tables, created the sweet table, designed their own guest book. They purchased their attire off the rack from stores on Queen West. And Gin had a friend do her makeup.

As you can see, it was a picture-perfect day. One of the highlights for the couple was walking down the street and having strangers applaud and wish them well. “We felt they were genuinely happy for us, it was a fantastic day!”

The Gift Of A Photographer

Rachel Gagnon and Tyler Harris hired photographer Robin Cimitruk back in 2009 to snap some engagement photos. The couple was planning a destination wedding and they decided to have a friend who owned a decent camera take pictures at their wedding rather than hiring a professional photographer.

Four months before the wedding Robin received a call from Tyler asking if she and her assistant would fly down to the Dominican Republic to photograph the wedding as a surprise for Rachel. Tyler explained that Rachel kept saying how much she wanted a professional photographer at their wedding and wouldn’t it be great if it could be Robin?

It didn’t take Robin long to decide that she would love to be in on the secret and honoured to shoot their wedding. Tyler even went as far as to fly the photographers down a day early so Rachel didn’t run into them at the airport.

Tyler’s gift to Rachel will never be forgotten. Take a look.

Tea with The Wedding Co. at Paper & Poste

Last Tuesday, five talented wedding professionals — Tara O’Grady of Bliss, Jennifer Rackham from Graydon Hall, Melissa Andre of Melissa Andre Events, Lianne Adelson of the Event Boutique and Crystal Adair-Benning of Distinct Occasions — gathered at Paper & Poste to talk weddings, invitations and bridesmaid dresses.

This gathering marked the second in an ongoing series called Tea with The Wedding Co. Our aim is to bring small groups of professionals together to meet new businesses in the industry, establish new relationships and enforce old ones.

The day began with Heather Sauer of Paper & Poste, who introduced the many different invitation lines available to engaged couples. She also presented some of the custom work she and her design partner, Beckee McCann, have created since opening last fall.

Danielle Guli of Twobirds Bridesmaid walked us through the multiple ways in which a bridesmaid (or bride) can wear one of her classic or rosette dresses. She also explained how she can make a bridesmaid feel just as beautiful as a bride on her wedding day.

A special thank you to Tealish, who provided the most spectacular tea. It hit the spot on a very rainy day.
