Yesterday we featured Sapna Mahajan and Ethan Sinclair’s week-long tour of India with 100 of their wedding guests prior to their March 25 wedding in Manali, India. Today’s blog looks at the day before the wedding and the rituals that were observed.
The day started off with the cleansing and beautification of the bride and groom with turmeric powder paste by the families. Then all of the women attending took part in the traditional Mehendi party, where henna was applied to their hands. Mehendi symbolizes the strength of love in a marriage and therefore the bride will try to keep her henna on as long as possible.
In the evening was the Sangeet, a night of singing and dancing with food and entertainment including a Bollywood dance performed by the bridal party. “It is such a big event is was amazing to think they weren’t even married yet” says photographer Catherine Farquharson, “I couldn’t believe there were two wedding ceremonies and a reception still to take place the next day.”
Tomorrow we will bring you the final entry of this three part series, Two Ceremonies and a Reception, make sure you take a look.
Tune in tomorrow for Sapna and Ethan’s wedding and reception.
