Many brides let their hair down for the evening portion of their wedding, but Adriana did something much different.
While planning their Italian / Scottish wedding at the Arcadian Court, Adriana Policaro and Robert MacDonald were overwhelmingly aware of how truly lucky they felt to have each other, their health, and their wonderful family and friends.
It was important to them to acknowledge their guests’ support and to do this the couple wanted make a statement. They decided, in lieu of favours, to make a donation to their favourite charity. Then, Adriana and Robert took this idea even one step further.
A Child’s Voice Foundation is dedicated to creating programs to help financially disadvantaged children in Canada. One of their initiatives is Angel Hair For Kids. They accept donations of real hair to make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to medical conditions or treatment.
Adriana had planned to, one day, donate her hair to the Foundation. She had decided to cut it after the wedding until someone jokingly said why not cut it at the wedding. Well, once that idea was in Adriana’s head she knew what she had to do.
The couple enlisted a team of suppliers to help pull it off. Adriana’s hair stylist, Brian, was there to cut her hair, their planner Lisa Garofalo from Bliss Events scheduled time during the event, and their photographer, Andreas, captured the moment.
A few guests knew what was going to happen, and though they had their concerns, Adriana and Rob felt it was the right thing for them to do.
We asked Adriana what the actual moment felt like:
“During the hair cutting process I was feeling really happy. It sounds strange, but I wasn’t really nervous about how it would look. Instead, I think Rob and I were really focused on where the hair was going. We both feel extremely blessed to have so many loved ones, and our health, and it seemed only appropriate to share a bit of our happiness. The only time I was a bit nervous was when Rob cut the ponytails off we realized he had cut them on two different angles. It all worked out at the end.”
