About Us
Catherine

The Wedding Co. is the product of owner and creative director, Catherine Lash's dream to promote valuable connections between brides and members of Toronto’s exceptional event industry. At almost 8 years old, it is now a company comprised of multiple components that work seamlessly together to provide industry members with immediate and effective exposure to their target market and to each other. The company’s events, news service and marketplace are connected through the company’s website, which means it provides easy access to valuable information for today’s busy bride.

Catherine’s background

Catherine spent ten years as a wedding photographer in Toronto. During that time she continually made contacts in the industry through whom she explored the world of weddings and discovered her obsession with all things bridal. Continually introducing her contacts to one another, Catherine recognized that lack of connection and marketing within her community that relied so heavily on word of mouth. She envisioned a place for young visionaries and established professionals alike to present their work to their target market of selective, stylish and well researched newly engaged while also connecting with each other, sharing ideas.

Starting out

Eight years ago, The Wedding Co. first took the form of a weekend-long show. Dissatisfied with the typical bridal event, Catherine dreamed of provide brides with an exceptional experience in an exquisite location. After moving from Edward’s Garden to the ROM, the show has called the stunning Carlu home since 2005, its 1930’s art moderne chic and rich history makes it the perfect location.

More recently

The Wedding Co. has gone online to offer year round wedding planning support. The online aspect of the company includes The List, a marketplace where the finest of the industry can be found, and The News, a weekly article of new and noteworthy information for the modern bride.

The company has also sponsored events such as the Fireball presented Sheena’s Place, a non-profit organization working to improve the lives of people living with eating disorders.

10th Anniversary

In 2011, The Wedding Co. will celebrate its 10-year anniversary at The Wedding Show. Culminating with that milestone, the company will also have completed its first international DIY project, The Crane Chandelier.

It’s our goal to collect 10,000 origami cranes from engaged and newly married couples around the world, every crane will have a couple's names, their wedding date and their location written somewhere on it. The project is meant to symbolize the invisible ties these people share with so many strangers, each crane will represent one couple's ’leap of love’ together as the birds will look as though they are flying or just about to take flight.

Other 10th anniversary plans are in the works and we’re hoping to announce them early in 2010 as we gear up for the year ahead!
