The Cranes at William Ashley

Ever since we hosted The Wedding Show in January, our beloved crane chandelier has been sitting in boxes in my office. Visitors constantly ask me if I’m sad that it’s boxed up and not proudly on display somewhere, but I also tell them no, it will find a home one day.

Then, a couple of weeks ago, Michelle Smith — display designer at William Ashley — called to see if they could use the cranes in their ‘Royal Wedding’ window display that’s up ’til the end of April. Needless to say, I was thrilled and said yes. It isn’t a permanent home, but I’m confident that we’ll find one soon.

The window should be complete now. Here are a few photos from the setup.

The Crane Chandelier Project

Here it is, The Crane Chandelier Project.

It has been an amazing two-year journey and we are thrilled with the final installation! Our final count was  14,523.The chandelier is made up of 10,000 of the over 14, 000 cranes we received from couple all across North America.

The goal was to collect 10,000 origami cranes signed by newly engaged couples by January 2011, when The Wedding Co. celebrates its 10th anniversary. The final creation was a visual representation of a worldwide community of engaged and newly married couples — a community that already shares so many invisible ties. Each crane represents one couple’s leap of love, commitment and patience.

Thank-you to all those who made, signed and mailed in cranes.Thank-you to Tammi, Adelaide, Maddie, Stephan and Angel for helping string the cranes and Andre and Peter for building the structure and making sure it was secure.

The Wedding Co. is proud to be making a 50 cent donation for each crane in the chandelier to The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation to help fight cancer.

Here is a look back at the project.
