Wedding Photography by Olive Studio

Last week we published Ana & Pete’s wedding by Olive Studio, this week I thought I would officially introduce you to April Maciborka, the owner and principal shooter of this documentary based photography studio.

After attending Sheridan College April spent four years travelling and documenting the realities of unforgotten worlds. Once she was settled in back in Toronto weddings began to fall into her lap. April quickly realized weddings fed her desire to document emotions and moments of true happiness. Weddings also allowed April the opportunity to satisfy her first love, fashion photography. “I love shooting the getting ready portion of weddings. Women are beautiful, the process of a woman getting ready is so special to me. As a little girl, I loved dress up and I used to pretend to get married walking down the staircase.”

In an ideal world April would keep travelling and would photograph for clients such as National Geographic while running a wedding studio and having a family. Until then take a moment to take a look at more of April’s weddings at olivestudio.ca and her documentary work at aprilmaciborka.com.

Ana and Pete, August 27, 2011

Ana Bellido and Pete Pook knew they didn’t want to spend a lot on their wedding reception so they got creative.

The couple got ready at the King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto with their wedding party consisting mostly of their siblings. Once everyone was ready they stepped outside for photographs. With such a small group it was easy for photographers, April Maciborka and Bruce MacNeil of Olive Studio to take them on a downtown walking tour from the King Eddie through some of Toronto’s great alleyways all the way down to Front Street.

Knowing that a sit down dinner  was going to be the biggest part of the budget Ana and Pete decided to host a small intimate affair with just the wedding party at Osteria, a local downtown restaurant. After a great meal they welcomed the rest of their invited guests (about 100) to Cabinet in the Distillery District for a beautiful ceremony, cocktails and dancing.

I love how this couple designed their wedding to fit within their budget and were still able to celebrate with all those important to them, very creative.

Getting To The Brick Works In Style

Both Rebecca and Jaimes work in the advertising industry so it was no surprise that their wedding was filled with beautiful, creative details such as the mason jar escort cards and handmade (by Rebecca) vintage teacup candles.

Rebecca and Jaimes were married at St. Paul’s Basilica in downtown Toronto and their reception at the graffiti covered Holcim Gallery at the Evergreen Brick Works.  The Holcim Gallery was the perfect backdrop for this downtown couple but one of the highlights was getting there in Rebecca’s uncles vintage Bel Air Chevrolet complete with tomato cans tied to the bumper, now that’s arriving in style.
