The Crane Chandelier Project

January 2011

Worldwide

Let your commitment become part of something extraordinary.

Current Count: 5,100

The Wedding Co. is building a chandelier from thousands of origami cranes which have come from engaged couples around the world. Want to participate? Request One or learn to make your own!

The goal is to collect 10,000 of these peaceful tokens of love by January 2011 when The Wedding Co. will celebrate its 10th anniversary. The final creation will be a visual representation of a worldwide community of engaged and newly married couples - a community that already shares so many invisible ties. Each crane will represent one couple’s leap of love, commitment and patience.

For each crane we receive, we will donate ¢50 to cancer research.

To fold an origami crane takes time, commitment and patience and we encourage every person planning their wedding to take a moment to make an origami crane and experience a few minutes of quiet during a busy time. Lean how to make a crane here.

Project Highlights

For more details on the project, read all the updates on The Daily News.

January 30, 2010 Enough cranes to break the 5000 (halfway) mark and boost us another hundred at Indie Wed today.

January 18, 2010 We’re at the halfway point of the two year Project and just shy of our one year goal of 5,000 cranes… hoping to make those numbers up at Indie Wed in Chicago at the end of the month.

November 30, 2009 Received Jacqueline and Ryan’s 900 beautifully crafted, meticulously labeled cranes.

November 4, 2009 Sebastien and Hope’s 956 cranes arrived. We love the variety of paper they made cranes out of, especially the random magazine pages, talk about timely ephemera!

September 28, 2009 The Crane Chandelier Project is going to Chicago! On January 30, we will be participating in Indie Wed a unique wedding show and market.

September 16, 2009: Kristin and Jason’s 788 cranes from their wedding August 29th in Boulder, Colorado, arrived at The Wedding Co.’s office. The couple made 1000 cranes for their wedding in memory of their family members who have passed away from cancer. They had guests sign the rest as a keepsake.

September 9, 2009: The Wedding Co. received 1000 cranes from Trina and Sota who folded them to incorporate Sota’s culture and welcome family and friends from Japan to their August 8 wedding in Laguna Beach, California.

June, 2009: We’ve received several requests to accept more than one crane per couple and to honour larger donations by counting each crane when we make our donation to cancer research - we’re thrilled to comply and to be given the opportunity to have this responsibility.

Crane Kits! Request a pre-made crane for yourself or an engaged friend or DIY ! Just don’t forget to write your names, your wedding date and your location somewhere on the crane. Crane can be sent to:
