A Wedding At The Montreal Science Centre

There are so many aspects of this wedding that I love. From the contemporary look to the abstract photography, this is one on my favourite weddings of the year.

Debbie Woo, the bride, contacted The Wedding Co. in August to tell us she was making 1000 cranes for her September 25th wedding and that she would like to donate them on behalf of herself and her now husband, Fady Mansour, to the Crane Chandelier Project. Needless to say, we were thrilled.

Debbie took on this challenge because she likes what the cranes represent: loyalty, peace and dedication — all qualities need for a successful marriage. Plus, she loved making cranes as a little girl, and so she decided that this would constitute the DIY portion of her and Fady’s wedding.

But when Debbie hit 300, she was ready to stop because of the huge time commitment involved. Both she and Fady have demanding careers in the medical field (she’s a surgeon, he’s a gynecologist and obstetrician). With some help from Fady’s mother, and with the knowledge that the cranes would ultimately find a good home in our crane chandelier, Debbie persevered. In the end, she made 1800 — enough to use in the ceremony canopy as well as the photo booth. An impressive feat indeed!

More Cranes Arriving!

The Crane Chandelier is still growing, we just received 900 cranes from a great couple we met at Indie Wed in Chicago last year, here is their inspiring story of why they made 1000 golden cranes for their wedding.

Dear The Wedding Co.

Last January we donated a crane at the Indie Wed fair in Chicago. Even then, I knew we would be making a 1000 golden cranes but I was even more inspired by your project.

Happily John and I with help from our friends folded 1024 cranes just in time for our wedding on October 24th. We hung them on the branches of magnolia trees and were married in front of the display.

It was especially meaningful since 30 years earlier my parent had 1000 golden cranes at their wedding! It took a lot of effort and time but we did it too!

Best of luck with your celebration and display.

We Reached Our Goal Of 10,000!

I received an email from Eunmi and Nick who have just returned from their honeymoon that they would like to donate the remaining 770 canes we need to reach our goal of 10,000 for the Crane Chandelier Project. Thank-you Eunmi and Nick, we would be happy to take as many cranes you would like to donate- they ended up making 2500 for their wedding.

We have had a few other couples pledge cranes that they are making for their wedding, we would be honoured to receive them and include them in the project. We will also increase our donation to the Princesses Margaret Hospital Foundation to include the cranes that make their way to us in the next few weeks.
