The Loved One

Modern design made using time-honoured techniques.

Q & A with the uber talented accessories designer, Antonia Akai-Casuccio of The Loved One! Meet Antonia and try on her designs at The Wedding Co. Market Sunday February 25th, tickets below!

1. How would you describe your company?
The Loved One is an ever-evolving collection of beautifully designed and impeccably handmade accessories. I design and make the pieces in my Leslieville home studio, sometimes with the assistance of a couple of very talented individuals. And because I can’t help myself, I add in a curated assortment of pieces from carefully chosen designers from around the globe.

2. What would you say your design style is?
“Josephine Baker runs off with a rock star”. Josephine Baker because she was an enigmatic trailblazer who was decades ahead of her time. A rock star (insert your favourite here – my vote goes to Nick Cave), because bridal can drown in a sea of sweetness, and who doesn’t love a badass just to disrupt the status quo? I lean towards modern design made using time-honoured techniques. I like a little bit of an edge, and I design for women with distinct and individualistic style.

3. What is your favourite material to work with?
Oooh, that’s tough; when I’m working with pearls, I’m all about softness and lustre of pearls; when I’m hand-setting Swarovski crystals, I’m all about the beauty and sparkle. I guess if I had to choose, it would be natural crystals. I try to find them ethically mined and sourced. They are just lovely to incorporate into pieces.

4. What is it about working with brides to create their wedding day look that you love?
When working with brides-to-be, here’s nothing better than the personal relationship that develops with each individual. I love collaborating with my brides to create a one-of-a-kind heirloom piece that they will treasure for years to come. It’s so important to me that when creating a bespoke piece, my brides are involved in the process. It makes the piece truly theirs.

5. What should couples expect when they meet you at the show?
Someone with a true passion for what they do, honest answers to their questions, and hopefully lots of inspiration for their wedding day!
