We absolutely adore Ann Wood's creations, this is just a taste of the whimsical world she lives in, we hope to bring you a more in depth look in the near future.

This week, The Wedding Co. pays tribute to the oodles of bird imagery we’ve spotted from a Venue Tour of a ‘nest’ to bird and feather accessories and inspirational décor elements. Stephanie Gareri is The Wedding Co.’s project coordinator for The Crane Chandelier Project.
With about 50 tiny cranes in hand, I ventured to stemz and had the pleasure of spending some creative time with Fiona Liston, co-owner and designer of the Queen East flower shop.
And I went prepared with a bird, and more importantly, a crane-themed challenge. I asked her, “If a bride came to you with a box of cranes and said she would like to incorporate them into her florals – what would you do?”
Fiona warmed up the glue gun, grabbed a handful of floral wire and white tape and began fastening the mini cranes to the wires. Please note: Fiona allowed me the opportunity to participate in the creative process however my wired cranes were no where close to as pretty and precise as hers!
 Cranes on a wire
The addition of miniature paper cranes to an arrangment adds a whimsical flare when nestled between delicate petals or firm branches.

 Simple and delicate
 Endless possibilities...
When working with a floral designer for your wedding, it is key he or she shares your vision. As Fiona simply put it: “inspiration is all around us, we could go on creating – the possibilities are truly endless!”
Thank you Fiona and stemz for making our crane florals come to life!

We are sending Oprah a crane to see if she will spread the word about the Crane Chandelier Project. By Catherine Lash
All nestled in a box, our crane is ready to take flight
Stephanie and I made our biggest origami crane to date today. We started with a 26”x26” piece of Chiyogami paper from The Paper Place and ended up with a crane with the wingspan of 23”. We thought it appropriate to send Oprah the biggest crane we could make in the hopes that she will profile our project through one of her several media outlets: magazine, show or website, we aren’t picky.
We will keep you up to date on the Oprah report and watch out Ellen, a crane will land on your doorstep soon, too!

In light of our bird-themed week, this is a sweet alternative to a ring pillow which we found on Etsy by mother and daughter team YandEBridal.

People say that birds sing so that they can find a mate,
I prefer to think that birds mate so that there will always be music in the air.

An intimate winter wedding in the Nest
Eagles Nest feels like a destination venue. It’s not everyday you stumble on a space inside the GTA that feels completely isolated from urban sprawl with a panoramic view of rolling hills and a serene man-made pond.
Though the view from the stately clubhouse of the public golf course often includes a peppering of brightly coloured golfers spread across the course, it feels like a private space. This is a space that’s just as cozy mid-winter, especially tucked up on the second floor Nest, as its wide, covered terrace is airy through the summer.
And if you golf, you could score yourself a birdie before heading to the nest to tie the knot!
Venue Snapshot
Numbers: 10 – 360 for cocktails
Prices: Start at $125.00 per person plus taxes and gratuities for a reception, ceremonies are additional
Location: 10,000 Dufferin Street, Maple (map)
Parking: Onsite and free
Feel: Friendly and immaculate inside and out, a little ambitious in the grand décor
Facilities: This is a full service space. From linens and rentals to staff, catering and a dance floor – multiple rooms and outdoor spaces mean a wedding can be customized to the size of your party and your needs. Upstairs a bridal suite is a compact but private space for preparing. Multiple events may take place simultaneously so spaces like the bridal suite may be shared.
Great Spot for a portrait: In the extra large wine cellar or take advantage of the long terrace outside overlooking the expanse of green

It feels like The Birds here at The Wedding Co., everywhere we turn we are seeing birds and feathers.
Last week, walking down my street, I saw a male and a female cardinal, the male red as a sunset and the female in her undercover brown.
In celebration of spring, the start of wedding season and everything new, we thought we would dedicate an entire week to the bird. Stay with us and discover bird imagery and bird associations can be found in all our posts including our weekly venue tour, fashion spotlight and picture of the week. Our crane project is our long term tribute to the bird, and this week we will be sending off a special crane to Oprah.
Take a moment in the morning to listen to the birds, chances are you’ll hear a cardinal, let their song inspire you to work together and be the best partner you can be.
