Vicki & Matt’s Loft Wedding
Toronto wedding photographers Phoebe Chan & Lelaine Ching of EightyFifth Street Photography share Vicki and Matt’s wedding. They asked Vicki and Matt to describe their inspiration and some of their favourite memories from the day.
“When we were planning our wedding, we really only had a few goals in mind: (1) to make sure our bridal party, family and friends were able to relax and enjoy the day to the fullest, (2) to incorporate things that we both love and show who we are and (3) to draw inspiration from the city that we live in.
We have been together a long time, and there have been so many people who have been a part of our lives that we wanted to make this day about thanking them for their support along the way. We were able to enjoy a relaxing morning getting ready with our bridal party and our families, followed by the traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony which allowed us to honour our aunts and uncles. We also made the decision to write our own ceremony, with the help of Enduring Promises, in order to reflect our personalities and our values. Our close friend Jenny provided beautiful piano music to set the tone for our ceremony and we asked Matt’s sister and Vicki’s cousin to read funny and heartfelt passages that reflected who we are as a couple.
With respect to our décor, one of the first things we knew we wanted to incorporate were Vicki’s love for purple and Matt’s love of Kid Robot. This is reflected in our choice of flowers, the groomsmen’s accessories, our wedding cake and our guestbook (an 18-inch vinyl Munny)! We also drew inspiration from many of our friends’ weddings – seen in the collage of photos, photos of ourselves throughout the years (to match table numbers), and small touches including gift bags to keep our younger guests entertained. Some of our DIY elements included the table number holders, the cookies given as favours for our guests, and our signage – graciously made by our friends and the cookies tirelessly baked by Matt’s sister Kim. We definitely recommend drawing upon the talents that surround you!
Our favourite moments of the day were seeing everyone from all the different parts of our lives come together to celebrate. It was very special to see our parents with their families and friends, some of which they had not seen in years.
Last but not least, our advice would be to draw upon your friends when selecting trusted vendors. Many (if not all!) of the vendors were recommended by close friends who had either personal experience or experience from their own family and friends. From hair and make-up, to our wedding cake and desserts, to our officiant and most importantly our day-of-coordinator and our photographers, we could not have asked for a better team to help the day run smoothly and to help us create wonderful memories that we will be talking about for a long time to come.”
